Bacteriophages in L.lactis. Phages characterization and horizontal gene transfer (transduction) for genome editing.

L.lactis  is a lactic acid bacteria used as starter culture in the dairy industry.
L.lactis  bacteriophages are one of the main cause of production failure and they have therefore received big attetion in the past decade.
In my project I am studying  a big set of L.lactis  phages isolated from the dairy environment starting from their NGS data, trying to characterize the more interesting ones.
Furthermore, bacteriophages are used as a tool to modify L.lactis  strains in a non GMO way: horizontal gene transfer mediated by transduction is employed for this purpose.
